Actually, there is a tool for undercoat removal. It is a "Crud Buster" or Dynabrade's "Dynazip". It's a wire wheel that really works well and actually leaves the metal with a light sand-blast look. Originally designed to remove ship barnacles.

Sometimes the dry ice works (liquid nitrogen always works but is a bit difficult to handle); heat guns, scrapers and torches work with a bit of danger attached.

The crud buster is a great suggestion. I do boats in addition to race cars and I've been planning on buying one of those barnacle grinders for my express cruiser to prep it for the spring. Figure I'll buy that for the race car too! Most online boat supply shops sell the disks & wheels.

The Dynazip is great. Wurth makes the same type of tool as does Astro. Caution--the wire wheel consumables are not cheap.

If it doesn't say you can, you CAN'T.

As the rules say, though,

Engine compartment insulation may be​

removed.

Which would include the hood insulation. you cannot remove metal, though.

not good i got laid off so im looking for work at the moment so i can get back on the it and finish her up so far got ive bought my stainless piping and and mazda comp lava rock muffler to make a custom header and and header back..but havent had the money to send it out to get done...and thats pretty much where im at right now
