Yes! But you know that already....

Seriously guys, he's an IT racer, in ITA. I fully expect him to do like others on the committee -- Kirk, Andy, etc. -- and NOT be protectionist about his car.

Jeff, first we are asked to trust a Turnip racer and now a Miata racer....are you nuts???? Chuck

Yeah, but he's a Miata racer first and foremost. You know those guys are doing everything they can to take over the world......

;)

I don't know travis personally, but from our interactions on the interwebz I can tell he's a strait shooter. abrupt, opinionated? maybe, and we've had our disagreements, but we as a club tend to attract the strong willed and assertive types. I think he'll do well.

Count me in the same camp at this point. I've found plenty of reasons to disagree with Travis's positions but he is smart and his opinions are well considered - even those that are wrong. :)

Some constructive criticism, if I might, Travis? My biggest worry during the fracas was about back-channel communications. That can be a VERY attractive option, particularly if one is friendly with CRB or BoD members. It could mean you are more tapped in than a typical committee member might be but it can also be a terribly slippery slope back to the things that were wrong, that resulted in the other things that were wrong, that led to the meltdown.

It sounds like Josh has the current committee working really well within channels. It's crucial that all committee work go through them.

It might surprise some but I'm optimistic about the current make-up of the ITAC. A good balance of perspectives, as should be the case for a deliberative body like that.

I appreciate that and agree 100%. Having different perspectives, which we do, makes for better overall committee decision making.

to you it might seem like a slippery slope, but in my mind it's a big giant leap to go from casually talking to my friends (who happen to be on the CRB/BOD/etc) about the happenings in the club, to being their puppet on the committee...or trying to lobby them to go against ITAC recommendation and in line with my personal beliefs.

it's just not something anyone has to worry about.

ITAC update

An ITAC personnel announcement: after the April meeting (postponed to next week due to difficulties getting a quorum with the holiday weekend) I will be resigning from the ITAC. I have overextended myself with too many things going on right now related to work and home, and something has to give, and I've decided that it will have to be racing. I have already missed the start of our season out here and will likely have to miss the next couple of weekends as well. The ITAC duties have also fallen behind and I am not able to give it the attention that I have been.

I feel pretty good about what I've done in my relatively short tenure as chairman (15 months), and in fact about the entire time I served (about 4.5 years). I think IT is doing better now than when I started. Since I joined the ITAC, the process has been heavily shored up and written down, and we have procured support for it from all levels of the club hierarchy. The rules make somewhat more sense although there's still a way to go on that in my mind. The club has rolled out the letter-tracking system and that has improved communication between the committees and the membership in huge ways. In any case, I think I'm leaving IT better than when I joined, and although there's never a good time, that makes it an "okay" time to leave.

In terms of logistics, Danny Doern will take over my role as chairman as chairman of the ITAC. He has stepped up and done a good job for the two meetings I've missed this year, and I'm sure with more practice, he'll figure out how to keep the meetings under control. I wish him the best of luck :-) I do plan to join the rescheduled April call to aid in a final transition.

I sincerely hope that my leadership of the ITAC has set a template for how it should act moving forward, but of course, the new chair will certainly leave his mark, as I did and as Andy did before me.

Thanks to everyone for your support of me, and your support of the ITAC in the future!

Josh did an extraordinary job running the ITAC through a difficult time, mending fences with the CRB and getting the Process down on paper. He will be missed, and he did a fantastic job as chair.

Josh, thanks for all the hard work on behalf of IT racers everywhere. A lot of positive changes have happened in the last fifteen months and you were certainly involved with making that come to pass. Good luck with the work and home life.

Ron

Thank you not only for your work, but just as importantly communication here with the IT members. Hopefully this will free up a little bit of time / stress and you'll be out on the track soon.

Any chance Danny will follow your and others lead with using this forum as a communication tool?
